The crime rates are higher in Mexico than any other country and many believe that one of the reasons behind this is the fact that the Mexican street gangs are connected to the cartels. These connection allow the Mexican and other US street gangs to have better mobility and reach as the drug cartels are more powerful. Goldberg (2016) noted that “various centrality measures indicate the Sinaloa Cartel to have the broadest reach into the illicit drug market, as this cartel is affiliated with the highest number of gangs.”
